Cheap New Small Car Vs More Expensive Used Car

If it has been a while since you went looking at new cars,  you might be surprised to learn just how cheaply you can buy a brand new small car today.

Henry Ford's commitment to systematically lowering costs (1) began in 1908 with the worlds first mass produced car the Model T Ford. The company Henry Ford created is now over 100 years old and at it's core is Henrys philosophy of making a better car more affordable.

The retail price of a 1.5GLXi 5 door model Ford Festiva in 2000 was $15,950+ dealer delivery, stamp duty and registration. A cute little car, the highly successful Festiva had a 1.5l engine with 56kw power and an impressive 5.6l per 100km highway driving. Air conditioning was an optional extra as were airbags. When added, the price for this vehicle (after a little wrangling) would have been around $17,000 drive away.

11 years later, todays equivalent cheap small Ford car is an entry level 2010 / 2011 Ford Fiesta CL 5 Door retailing from $16,990. The new Ford Fiesta has a 1.6l engine with 89kw power (up 30kw) sips just 4.9l per 100km highway driving and where the Festiva offered a single driver side airbag as an optional extra, the safety list on the new Fiesta is as long as your arm (it includes ABS, stability control, traction control, electronic brake distribution and dual air bags).

The new Fiesta is also a much better car to drive and has steering wheel control buttons, front power windows, power mirrors, Bluetooth system, remote central locking and a 6 speaker CD stereo system with mp3 / iPod input + much more.

Every year, the automotive industry invests billions of dollars in research and development to help them make breakthroughs in safety, reliability, fuel efficiency and fun factor just for us! In 2007 Fords R&D budget was the second largest in the world at 88 billion dollars, second only to pharmaceutical giant Pfizer (2) and this money shower of research and development has resulted in Ford producing the modern day 'cheap' new car with safety and performance that rivals many prestige cars of just a few years ago.

While Ford continues to lead the technology race in new small cars, the badge for lowest price new small car under $15,000 has to go to new car manufacturer Chery with the J1 at just $11,990 drive away. Hyundai has a three door manual i20 retailing at just $14,490 and while neither car has all the bells and whistles of Ford and Kia, they certainly are cheap new car buying!

Cheap new cars may not actually be the best choice of words for these amazing little autos. Behind that low, low price, a phenomenal amount of money has been spent in creating a safer, more user friendly, fuel efficient and reliable product. In fact, these low priced new cars are often a better option than choosing an expensive used car that has depreciated to the same price.

Miedecke Motor Group is offering customers the opportunity to test drive the new Ford Fiesta, Chery J1, Hyundai i20 and the Kia Rio all at the one convenient location along side Port Macquaries largest range of used car options to compare them to.
